This week, one of our new visitors to the Art Room — a woman who lived under Russian occupation in Kherson — shared part of her story:
“The last week under occupation was the hardest. There was no water, no signal, no light — the Russians had started to retreat. Every day, we’d walk to one point in the city just to charge our phones.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw our soldiers and Ukrainian flags. I stood and watched for hours, not daring to believe. When I saw them lower the Russian flag and raise the Ukrainian one… I finally knew it was over. I left the next day.
Now, in the Art Room, I can stop watching the clock. My thoughts quiet down. It’s only my second time here, but it helps.”
The Art Room continues to offer emotional relief and creative expression — something deeply needed by those who’ve endured trauma and loss.
